Programme Objectives

The course aims to equip students in their career pursuits as IT Engineers and professionals within the IT-related fields in a variety of organisations.

In addition, and more generally, the course aims to:

  • Provide a challenging, stimulating and self-rewarding study environment
  • Provide a framework whereby individual study paths may be forged based on choice from a range of options
  • Develop a range of key skills by means of opportunities provided in the study units
  • Accommodate student needs in relation to maximizing their career potential by enabling them to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in their chosen subject area
Course Modules
  • C6001 - Object Oriented Modeling and Programming
  • C6002 - Data Modeling and Distributed Database
  • C6003 - Computer Communications and Internetworking
  • C6004 - Software Development Tools
  • C6005 - Web Media Technology
  • C6006 - Developing Interactive Websites using XML and Web services

Upon completion of this programme, students would be exempted from the above 6 modules in the USQ MIT programme.

Admission Requirement  

A degree or similar professional qualifications from a recognised university/institution is required.
Alternatively, a Diploma from a recognized higher institution of learning or polytechnic with at least 2 years of relevant industry IT working experience

Exemptions:

Applicants may apply for exemptions at the application stage. This is done on a standard form with supporting evidence as appropriate. Applications for exemptions are forwarded with admissions applications to Informatics. Informatics is responsible for all decisions on exemptions and informs students of such as part of the admissions process. Information on exemptions is reported back to Informatics Computer School alongside admissions decisions and this information recorded on the Student Management system.

Programme Structure and Duration
Intake: January / May / August Mid Term February / June / October
Duration:

Full Time   :  minimum of 9 months
Part Time :  minimum of 9 months

Programme Delivery:

Full-time: Day classes taught by lecturers with industry experience and with the following support (36 hours)

Part-time: Distance learning mode with the following support (15 hours)

Exclusive access to IVC-Informatics Virtual Campus via the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Student Materials

Students are given a study guide and/or a principal reference text for all units. Some of the units will be taught directly from reference texts. In addition, all students will be given a Student Handbook.

Method of Assessment:

All the courses may include the combination of the following:

  • One or more assignments,
  • Tutorial &  Case study presentations
  • Project reports and documentation reports
Hosting and Technical Support for online supported learning  

Informatics will host the Informatics Global Campus and IVC websites and ensure their availability on a 24/7 basis.
Student's technical queries will be handled by informatics Global Campus. End users will be directed through to IGC via a technical solutions email address.
Typical query management solutions include:

  • Troubleshooting services where the end user's technical service request is analyzed
  • Training services where the end user is instructed on how to use features of the learning environment
  • Advisory/information services where advice is given on what features of a product/service should be used to resolve an end users' service request
  • Solving password related problems
