Programme Objectives

This course combines some of the generality of the computing course with modules concerned with the development of information systems. An information system is a set of people, data, procedures, hardware and software that work together to achieve the common goal of information management. Information management includes the tasks of gathering data; processing the data into reliable, accurate, and usable information; and distributing the information in a timely fashion for use in decision making, problem solving, and control. Information systems exist within organisations in commerce, industry and the public sector. Therefore, while it is primarily a computing discipline, it involves an understanding of organisations, management, information and the information needs of organisations.
