Chinese New Year Dinner

The Informatics Campus Sports & Recreation Hall was the place to be on 21 February 2008 as students and faculty members came flocking to celebrate the Lunar New Year dinner organised by the International Student Services Department. There was a line-up of students showcasing their talents which included singing, dancing and even a stand-up comedy act.
The crowd went wild when it was time for the management team to kick off the dinner with a ‘Loh Hey’ session headed by Managing Director, Mr Alan Phua. ‘Loh Hey’ is traditionally a celebration where friends and family gather around a table and using chopsticks they will toss some shredded ingredients into the air while saying auspicious wishes aloud. This act is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigour. This dish was served as an appetiser to all who attended the dinner to raise good luck for the New Year.
The event ended with the entourage of cast, performers and Informatics organisers up on stage doing a grand finale with a song. The crowd which consists of people of diverse races got a taste of what a Lunar New Year Celebration was all about. How was that for an evening of enriching cultural experience!
