Computer Classes @ Informatics – New Hope Community Services In line with its core value of social responsibility, Informatics carries out various forms of CSR work. Most recently, our lecturers delivered a series of computer classes for beneficiaries from New Hope Community Services. Classes were conducted on 24 and 31 Aug to introduce Microsoft Word and Powerpoint to 22 participants. On 14 and 20 September, another 20 participants were given an introductory course on Excel. The participants ranged from 13 to 70 years, some with no prior experience using these applications. Winnie Chua, the Career Coach from New Hope said “the participants truly benefited much from the training. We are grateful to the Informatics team for having spent your Saturdays with us. We would also like to thank you for opening up the room for our NHCS kids whilst their parents attended the training”. It has been a rewarding experience for Informatics to collaborate with New Hope. Dr Teo Kim Heng, Programme Coordinator for Top-Up Degree Programmes said “The participants come from different backgrounds but they have one common attribute – they are all serious learners. It was challenging but fun sharing IT skills with them”. Mr Palaniappan Chettiar, Coordinator for Internship Programmes reflected that “It’s a good experience to teach such a heterogeneous group. I enjoyed teaching this group and I wish to help out in future projects”. Informatics looks forward to imparting more IT skills to other beneficiaries so that people from all segments of society can embrace and use technology to achieve personal and economic empowerment in the digital future. #digitalparticipation #SGDigital #digital readiness #CompanyofGood #CorporateSocialResponsibility
